On the south side of Lake Okeechobee is the small town of Clewiston. The next nearest golf course is 25 miles away but you'd have to go 50 or more miles to find another worth playing. So, this course is dominated by locals year-round and tourist/fisherman in season. It is a municipal course and the city does a great job of keeping it in shape and worth playing. The greens and bunkers are well kept. It is an old style Florida course with all the holes running back-to-back, side-to-side and no houses around. Most holes are pretty straight forward but there are some challenges. You'll come back for a second try after finding some water off the tee that you did not know was in play. Some of the greens are small and a couple are severly upside-down bowl shaped (Donald Ross-type), and you'll curse as you watch an approach or aggressive putt fall off the green. If you're here there is no better place to play less than an hour away.
